Herve’s Mom and Dad are farmers, subsistence farmers whose only tools are hoes and machetes. We met them in 2012. His father said he couldn’t wait for Herve to grow up and help out on the farm. Dad’s arguments for his only son, Herve, to help him on the farm, were as sound and convincing as any survivors’ objectives: food, water to cook, water to drink and water to wash.
But as we talked, he also understood that tomorrow might be different for Herve if he could be in school today. We offered our support so that Mom and Dad no longer have to choose between Herve’s education and feeding him. With his parents’ consent, we took Herve to school.
Today, Herve is thriving in 2nd grade. We thank our supporters for their continued understanding and generosity. Remember to visit this site often for the chance to meet another child.
